Discover Your Why
"The Impact" lesson invites participants to articulate the long-term, transformative changes their district aspires to achieve. This section is pivotal in helping them connect their core values and significant moments to the lasting legacy they wish to imprint on their community and beyond.
As the facilitator, your task is to guide participants in envisioning and expressing the tangible outcomes their district aims to accomplish. You'll help them translate abstract values and past experiences into specific, forward-looking goals and impacts.
- Encourage Reflection on Aspirations: Prompt participants to think deeply about how the themes from key moments and core values shape their district's future aspirations. Ask questions like, “What kind of legacy do you want your district to leave?” or “How do these values and moments translate into long-term goals for the district?”
- Aid in Mapping the Change: Facilitate discussions on how the district's values and guiding principles can lead to concrete, positive outcomes. Encourage participants to identify specific, measurable impacts that align with their values, asking, “What changes do you wish to see that would reflect these values?”
- Utilize the 3-Tabbed Info Box: Help participants effectively use the 3-tabbed info box to connect moments, their significance, core values, and correlations. Guide them to draw direct links between these elements and the envisioned impacts, fostering a clear understanding of how past experiences inform future aspirations.
- Support the Articulation of 'The Impact': As participants work on defining 'The Impact', encourage them to go beyond traditional metrics like test scores or graduation rates. Help them articulate a broader, transformative effect, focusing on legacy, community influence, and holistic educational outcomes.
- Prepare for the Next Steps: Encourage participants to view their work on 'The Impact' as a foundation for their comprehensive 'WHY' statement. Discuss how the insights gained here will be integrated into their first draft, emphasizing the importance of a cohesive narrative.
Embark on shaping the final cornerstone of your district's 'why' statement: The Impact. This is where you envision the lasting change your district aspires to achieve. Beyond daily lessons and administrative tasks, it's about the enduring legacy your district aims to imprint on the community and the world.
- Reflect on Future Aspirations: Think about how the common themes present in the key moments you identified along with their significance and correlation to the core values identified can help shape the long-term goals and dreams for your district. How do you envision your school making a significant difference in the lives of students, teachers, and the broader community?
- Mapping the Change: Consider how the values and guiding principles you've explored can transform into concrete, positive outcomes. What measurable impacts do these values aim to achieve? How will they shape the future of your district and its community?
- Envisioning the Journey Ahead: With these reflections, you'll be well-prepared to craft a comprehensive and inspiring 'why' statement. Your next step will be to integrate these insights into your first draft.
